CIP (Corporate Internship Project) Viva Batch 2017-19

Date: 14th & 15th July 2018

Each year, Alumni with work experience of 8 or more years are invited to evaluate the Internship project taken up by the students. This year we had Navin Patel (01-03), Nitin Sail (03-05), Shine Chandran (03-05), Anant Sagar (03-05), Sandhya Nambiar (04-06), Aatika Ansari (06-08), Makrand Patwardhan (07-09), Jyoti Sinha (07-09), Arnab Mandal (07-09), Siddarthi N (07-09), Deepak Badera (07-09), Sambit Mishra (07-09), Nilay Shrivastav (08-10). Quiet many appreciated the quality of Projetcs undertaken.

Thanks to all the Alumni for lending their weekend for the Internship Evaluation of the 2017-19 batch as well as all their inputs to students and feedback to the member of Faculty pertaining to Industry and students performance.

Guest Lecture by Mr. Rajnesh Khosla, Head HR – LG Software India on the topic “Career Planning”

The students of IBA had an interactive session with Mr. Rajnesh KhoslaHead HR – LG Software India who clarified their doubts and vision regarding “Career Planning.”

Mr. Rajnesh started off by bluntly stating it to the students that their first job is not going to be the dream job, because if dreams started getting realized so easily, there won’t be any motivation to strive continuously. He implored upon them to treat every job they get as a stepping stone for the next better opportunity. The session soon went into interactive mode with Mr. Rajnesh encouraging students to ask questions relevant to the topic rather than him simply lecturing. The students responded well to this thought and asked many questions related to specialization selection, optimum qualification mix for certain industry & job roles, hiring trend in upcoming fields like Analytics, etc. and many more.

Towards the end, Mr. Rajnesh warned students of complacency at any time in their professional life, because at every point people are judging and form impression about other people and there is simply no way to escape that.

The session came to an end with vote of thanks by Prof. Prema Ramachandran for Mr. Rajnesh taking time out from his schedule to impart knowledge to IBA students.

Guest Lecture by Mr. Manas Dasgupta, Technology Leader – ANZ Capital on the topic “Innovation in Leadership”

The students of IBA were enlightened by Mr. Manas DasguptaTechnology Leader – ANZ Wealth who interacted with them about “Innovation in Leadership.”

Ms. Manas started the session with a brief introduction about himself and his career graph. He talked about the key factors that lead to innovation, the reasons, the triggers and the key ingredients of a true innovation. He went on to specify the qualities of an innovative solution, features it should have and the process or framework that should be followed. He also emphasized about how the Culture and Leadership contribute in shaping up of innovative ideas.

Towards the end, Mr. Manas explained how an idea becomes a saleable idea and how a brilliant idea also can bite the dust if it isn’t saleable.

The session came to an end with vote of thanks by Prof. Suresh V Chandra for Mr. Manas taking time out from his schedule to impart knowledge to IBA students.

Guest Lecture by Ms. Mitchell Dudani, Social Media Expert and Trainer – Socialli.in regarding “Personal Branding on Social Media”

The students of IBA had an interactive session with Ms. Mitchell DudaniSocial Media Expert & Trainer – Socialli.in who enlightened & advised them about “Personal Branding on Social Media.”

Ms. Mitchell kicked off the session with a brief introduction to the world of Social Media and how companies are extensively using this platform nowadays as a very important tool for recruitment and company PR. She then took to informing the students about each of the major Social Media platforms (FB, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.) in detail and how companies are using them for brand building these days. She also gave tips for personal branding (DOs and DON’Ts) on these sites and gave tasks to students for shaping their personal profiles.

Towards the end, Ms. Mitchell advised students to start using Social Media more for Networking rather than just Fun and gave them individual network expansion targets for the next 2 years.

The session came to an end with vote of thanks by Dr. Nandeesh V Hiremath for Ms. Mitchell taking time out from her schedule to impart knowledge to IBA students.

International Yoga Day 2018 observed at IBA Bangalore

Date: 21st June 2018

With full enthusiasm and zeal IBA Bangalore observed the International Yoga Day with kind guidance from special guests Dr. Srinidhi Parthasarathi (Director – Vyasa Business School, SVYASA), Prof. Shreeparna Roy (Asst. Professor – Yoga, SVYASA) and Ms. Madhusmitha (Student – SVYASA University).

The event kicked off with a session by Dr. Srinidhi, where-in he detailed the link between Yoga and Management and how Yoga helps in being a better manager. It was followed by Prof. Shreeparna explaining the various aspects of Yoga, its real time impact and usefulness. Subsequently, everyone proceeded to the ground to practice various mind-body relaxation asanas under the guidance of Prof. Shreeparna. The session was attended by the students of IBA, as well as the Faculty & Staff members.

Saa Maa Saraawati Bhagwati, Neeshesh Jaadyapaha”

This auspicious day started with the blessings of “Goddess of Knowledge” after the above mentioned quotes of Saraswati Vandana were chanted by one of the staff member Mr. Jayaraju and was honoured by lightening of the lamp by respected dignitaries which filled the aura with purity & peace. It was a beautiful morning of 20th June 2018 when the whole IBA family gathered to welcome the 18th batch (2018-20) of IBA Bangalore for starting a new chapter in their life and bestowing their best wishes on them for the next two years of hard work, determination & perseverance that lay ahead of them. This crucial event is a milestone for the students as it kick starts the 2 years of training they will undergo to become “Future Managers” in the Corporate world. Well known dignitaries of IBA including Chief Guest Mr. Paneesh Rao (Chief Human Resources Officer – L&T Technology Services Ltd.) and Mr. Manish Jain (CEO & Founder – IBA Bangalore), along with Dr. Subhash Sharma (Director – IBA Bangalore) via Skype and all the faculty & staff members graced the event with their presence. The ceremony started with Dr. Sudhendu Dey (Program Director – IBA Bangalore) welcoming the new students into IBA family and subsequently Mr. Paneesh guiding students about learning more from failures rather than success with examples from his own life. It was followed by Dr. Subhash Sharma interacting via Skype, who talked about “Mantras of Success” for budding managers and explained how philosophy of management education at IBA aptly supplements to that. Subsequently, the members of Faculty and Staff took turns, introducing themselves to the new students, who in turn introduced themselves to the gathering. The event concluded by thanking for the efforts of all those who were present which was well presented by Prof. Suresh Chandra with a hope that the new batch will follow in the footsteps of their predecessors to strive hard and raise the bar of academic achievements within and beyond the Institute at various levels.

Guest Lecture by Dr. Sanjay Patro, Professor (Marketing) – XLRI Jamshedpur about “Fundamentals of Marketing & Evolution of its concepts”

Facilitated by the IBA Marketing Forum, the students of IBA were enlightened by Dr. Sanjay PatroProfessor – XLRI, Jamshedpur who took a session to empower them with knowledge about “Fundamentals of Marketing and evolution of its concepts”.

Dr. Sanjay‘s discussion with students included important topics like:

  • Marketing basics like 4Ps of Marketing, PESTEL concept, Segmentation, Targeting and Positioning
  • How Digital revolution has changed the focus of Marketing efforts
  • How the concepts have changed with change in mindsets, modernization and evolution of society
  • The slow but remarkable shift across industries from “Profit first” to “Customer first”

Towards the end, Dr. Sanjay advised students to embrace the fact that without proper personal marketing, even getting a job is going to be impossible, hence preparations should start now itself so that by the end of 2 years each and every one of them is a distinct marketable product.

Guest Lecture by Ms. Anjana K R, General Manager (HR) – Tata Consultancy Services about “IT Industry, Analytics and the future ahead”

The students of IBA had an interactive session with Ms. Anjana K RGeneral Manager (HR), Mr. Strafford Fernanndes, HR Specialist (Campus Recruitment), and Mr. Benjin Samuel, – Tata Consultancy Services who enlightened them about “IT Industry, Analytics and the future ahead”.

Mr. Anjana discussed and interacted with students over important topics like:

  • Turnaround among industries with the rise of Analytics and its implications
  • What changes the IT industry has undergone in the past decade
  • Skill sets that are looked for in fresher MBAs, specially by IT industry
  • The desirable learning curve of an MBA across industries and in IT industry

Ms. Anjana also shared with the students her professional journey and how she moved up the corporate ladder with various assignments, different partners and in distinct markets. She also advised students to take life always one step at a time (with the ultimate goal as a target of course!) and never shy from challenges whatever they may be. The session came to an end with students thanking Ms. Anjana for taking out time from her schedule to impart knowledge and information unto them.

Guest Lecture by Mr. Raja Sameer Nandan M, Vice President (HR) – Voonik on the topic “People aspect in Start-ups”

The students of IBA were enlightened by Mr. Raja Sameer Nandan MVice President (HR) – Voonik who took a session to empower them with knowledge about “People aspect in Start-ups”.

Mr. Sameer‘s discussion with students included important topics like:

  • Start-up culture, what to expect from them and what they expect from you as an employee
  • How start-ups operate, the people aspect
  • Funding that start-ups receive, types and what it really means
  • What start-ups put as first priority – Money or People?

Towards the end, Mr. Sameer advised students to focus on empowering their true nature because not everyone’s nature is a fit for start-up culture and some won’t fit in the culture of an established business. With that the informative session came to an end as the students expressed their gratitude unanimously.

Subsequently, the members of Faculty and Staff took turns, introducing themselves to the new students, who in turn introduced themselves to the gathering. It was now time to end the event by thanking all those who were present which was well presented by Prof. Ramesh S with a hope that the new batch will follow in the footsteps of their predecessors to strive hard and raise the bar of academic achievements within and beyond the Institute at various levels.
