This Diwali brought with it an enlightenment wherein we the Hope Team were inspired to celebrate it with those people who were in need to get in touch with the youth. Therefore, we decided to visit Shantidham Ashram , an old age home 4 kms ahead of our campus which accommodated people above 50 years of age. It is a beautiful place with lot of positive energy, greenery surrounding the environment and a feel of homely atmosphere. There were about 43 people at the time we visited and they reminded us of our parents and grandparents.
They were gathered together to welcome us and were eagerly awaiting to meet with us. We started with a small meditation exercise headed by Gautam following which we tried to entertain them with a classic Hindi song sung by Mayank. Then we requested them to share their life experiences. Amongst them were few of eminent personalities of their time. One of who was a retired Air Force personnel who was also a part of World War II, a freedom fighter, a person who served in UNICEF for about 40 years. We then organized a small game in which they were divided into 6 groups managed by each of the Hope members. It was like when we spin the bottle people on the opposite sides have to tell 3 qualities about the other person. With this we got to interact with all of them a lot wherein they shared a lot of their life experiences good and bad and also gave us valuable advices. It was a great pleasure to have Prof. Suresh Chandra also to share this auspicious day. He sang for all of us a song in Telugu and Hindi which was loved by one and all. The event was concluded with a dance performance by Gautam.
We contributed for their lunch and sweets from our Hope funds. We also donated a few magazines to their library.
In the end on behalf of entire Hope Team I would like to thank all the 12-14 Batch students for willingly contributing their Business Plan profit for such a great cause, Prof. G.S. Sreekiran for suggesting the place, Team KMC for donating the magazines, Prof. Suresh Chandra for accompanying us, Radhika and Ashish from Batch 11-13 for translating to Kannada language and photographing the event respectively.
